How to change the Default apps in Windows 10

If you find clicking on a file or an email/web link does not open the correct program then you can change the default program in which Windows will open for that file/link you are clicking.

If you have trouble opening PDF files or they are opening in the wrong program then you may need to install Adobe Reader from here: Adobe Reader Download

But simply following the below will change the default programs for other programs and remember for every other time.

  • On the Start  menu, select Settings .
  • Select Apps > Default apps.
  • Click on the app you want to change under the category of your choosing. You have some options for categories:

    • Email
    • Maps
    • Music player
    • Photo viewer
    • Video player
    • Web browser
  • Click on the app you want to make the default.

Click on the app you want to change under the category of your choosing and tehn click on the app you want to set as the default.

If you have changed your default apps too many times and just want to restart from scratch, you can easily reset all the default apps to the Windows 10 built-in ones.

    1. Click on the start menu. It's the Windows logo in the bottom left of your screen.
    2. Click on settings.

Click on the start menu icon and then click on settings.

    3. Click on System.
    4. Click on Default apps.

Click on system and then click on default apps.

    5. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu.
    6. Click on the reset button.

Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and then click on reset.

  • After clicking the reset button, all selection will revert to their original default system apps. Music will open in Groove, images in Photos, web links in Edge, and so on. From there you can go back in and (re)customise your options.
